Sports Massage helps alleviate aches and pains and treats minor injuries of muscles, ligaments and tendons. It helps to restore the tissues by increasing blood supply to the area and stretching the muscles. Sports massage also breaks down scar tissue and adhesions which may have built up following injury or overuse and so helps to create more freedom of movement and prevent future injury.
Injuries may be as a result of overuse or strain, whether it is from playing sport or, for example, sitting at the computer.
The practitioner uses a variety of techniques from friction, neuromuscular technique, muscle energy technique and soft tissue release.
Recommended treatment time is 1 hour although sometimes 30 minutes is sufficient.
