Shiatsu

Shiatsu (literally meaning ‘thumb pressure’) is a Japanese form of pressure based massage. It uses a traditional Oriental view of the person as a physical/mental/spiritual whole, and of ill-health originating in a stagnation of the body’s circulation of vital energy (or Qi). Shiatsu makes use of gentle, holding pressure and light stretches to release stress trapped in the musculature of the body to promote circulation and balance the nervous system, bringing a deep sense of relaxation and increased vitality.

Tony Todd has trained in both Zen and Namikoshi styles of shiatsu and where appropriate combines shiatsu with other techniques such as moxibustion (application of heat). The treatment takes place on a mat and is performed through clothing (please wear loose clothes, jogging bottoms are ideal). Treatment lasts around 50 minutes, with the first session around 1 ¼ -1 ½ hours which includes taking a medical history.

Shiatsu is a holistic treatment designed to stimulate your body and mind to function more efficiently and harmoniously. It is suitable for any age and almost any condition, and can be used alongside other medication or therapies. It can also be used as a means of boosting the immune system and preventing illness, and to bring a greater sense of energy and well being to your life.

Treatments are £40 for first appointment and £30 for follow ups. Please book a free 15 minute initial consultation if you are unsure and would like to know whether shiatsu would help you.

Shiatsu is practiced by our acupuncture and shonishin practitioner Tony Todd.
