Alexander Technique

Every day life can impose stress and strain on our bodies and minds which builds up over time. The Alexander Technique helps us to change the way we think and the way we respond to our environment, and restores balance in the way we use ourselves. Through individual lessons with a teacher we learn to release muscular tension and change postural habits, working with simple movements and helped by hands-on guidance.

Through Using the technique we can carry out ur daily activities with greater poise and minimum and feel taller and lighter in our body.

The Technique can help with back and neck pain, knee or joint problems, arthritis, stress, lack of confidence and voice strain; improving breathing, alignment and our overall sense of well-being. It can also help us in the workplace, for example to sit more effectively at our computer or to relax and move efficiently in any activity.

Performing artists, sports people, those in pain, as well as anyone who wants to move freely and feel at ease in themselves will benefit from Alexander Technique lessons. It is a unique method of re-education of the individual, which is rapidly becoming better known and practised worldwide.

The Alexander Technique is taught one to one in a series of eight lessons lasting 40 minutes each. Recent research published in the British Medical Journal shows that 6 lessons followed by prescribed excercise as one of the most efficient ways to treat chronic non-specific low back pain. Most pupils find that for sustained improvement a course of 20 lessons is most effective but this can be discussed with the teacher as we each have varying needs and goals.

We have a fully qualified and experienced Alexander Technique teacher working at Oasis Yoga and Health: Fiona Le Vien.

Fiona Le Vien has taught many types of people with problems ranging from slipped disc, scoliosis, arthritis, lordosis, RSI, ME, fibromyalgia. She has also taught the technique to many people wanted to better their posture and improve their performance and well being, including women in pregnancy and amateur singers.

As well as a private practise, Fiona has taught at the Brighton Brighton Alexander Technique Teacher Training School and at Benenden Girls School in Kent.
